Not Sure What Fits Your CO2 Laser?

How to Install a Convex Lens in a CO₂ Laser

For a standard plano-convex (PCX) CO₂ laser focusing lens, the correct installation is generally:

  • Convex (curved) side: Faces UP, toward the incoming laser beam.

  • Flat side: Faces DOWN, toward the material being engraved or cut.

Installation Steps

  1. Turn off the laser and disconnect power before accessing the lens assembly.

  2. Remove the lens holder or lens tube according to the machine manufacturer's instructions.

  3. Identify the curved and flat surfaces of the lens.

  4. Position the lens with the convex side facing the incoming beam and the flat side facing the workpiece.

  5. Secure the retaining ring gently. Do not overtighten, as excessive pressure can damage the lens.

  6. Reinstall the lens holder and confirm that everything is properly seated.

  7. Check focus and alignment using the machine manufacturer's approved procedure before cutting or engraving.

Important: Handle the lens by its edges, preferably with clean, powder-free gloves. Avoid touching the optical surfaces.

For a meniscus lens (curved outward on one side and inward on the other), the convex side also generally faces the incoming beam, while the concave side faces the workpiece.
